Pride Cmte. secures grant for vacant lot on Remley’s Point |
By Martine Wolfe-Miller, PIO
MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (January 28, 2010) – The Palmetto Pride Anti-Litter Organization recently awarded The Town of Mount Pleasant Pride Committee $2,000 to beautify a vacant lot owned by the Town and located at the intersection of 4th Street and 4th Avenue, within the Remley’s Point subdivision. The project is expected to transform an overgrown and underutilized lot into a safe, usable space for residents to enjoy.
The vacant lot is situated next to a recently completed community dock used for various activities including crabbing and fishing. The Pride Committee, with the support of neighboring volunteers and the Public Services Department, will clear the lot, create a gravel parking lot for nine spaces, install a split rail fence, and implement a routine maintenance program.
“I would like to thank the Pride Committee for securing funding to beautify our town,” said Mayor Billy Swails. “This citizen action committee has worked hard with the Public Services Department on numerous projects over the years. They award the Tree Bank Program, sponsor the Keep Mount Pleasant Clean and Green Campaign and bestow the Civic Pride Award twice a year to businesses for landscaping excellence. You may have seen them picking up trash on the side of Johnnie Dodds Boulevard or participating in the Great American Clean Up.”
The Pride Committee is comprised of residents of Mount Pleasant who offer to serve and are selected from eligible candidates. The Pride Committee meets monthly to discuss opportunities for beautification within the Town, to undertake beautification projects, and to discuss ways to promote civic pride.
Members include Chairman Bob Glenn, Vice Chair Patricia Fuchs, Cindy Ecleberry, Benjamin Gaillard, Jackie Kelly, Minnie Mayberry, Thomas Player, Genevieve Stratos, and Carolyn Yarbrough. For additional information on the Pride Committee, visit us online at www.townofmountpleasant.com.
