MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (September 22, 2009) – Presenting sponsor BILO, stage sponsor East Cooper Regional Medical Center, and general sponsor Mayfield Dairies are leading the way to a successful Children’s Day Festival this year and challenging community sponsors to follow suit. An expanding pool of businesses has committed corporate dollars to ensure that Lowcountry children have a wonderful time at the 22nd Annual Town of Mount Pleasant Children’s Day Festival. The event is slated for Sunday, Oct. 18, from noon to 5 pm, at the Park West Recreational Complex. Admission and parking are free.
“It is remarkable to note that these sponsors, along with all our other business sponsors, have stayed the course in the face of a troubled economy and remained steadfast in their support of Lowcountry children and children everywhere,” said Mount Pleasant Mayor Kruger Smith. “I commend their participation and urge our residents to frequent their businesses.”
“Our business sponsors have returned in great numbers,” said Community Development and Tourism Office Event Planner Su McManus-Frost. “We have noted a participation increase from last year and we are still receiving inquiries and signing up more businesses. These sponsors are clearly putting children ahead of the economy and remaining positive in their long-term economical forecast.”
Children will enjoy various activities including a climbing wall, inflatables, games, face painting, roving entertainers, clowns, a petting zoo and pony rides. Special performances will be given by local dance and gymnastics academies, karate schools and cheerleading squads. Other entertainment highlights include unicyclist and juggler Mark Lippard, King of Kazoo Rick Hubbard, and a special appearance by Roarks Reptiles. The Sunshine House will return again as the sponsor of the Kiddie Koral area.
Concessions will be available for sale, with proceeds benefiting participating local East Cooper schools. Free parking is available. Animals, bicycles and skateboards are not permitted. The theme of this year’s festival is “Space and the anniversary of Man’s First Walk on the Moon.”
