MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (August 17, 2009) -
The Town of Mount Pleasant will review emergency preparedness plans during its annual emergency preparedness staff briefing on August 21, at the Mount Pleasant Police Department Training Room. The Mount Pleasant Emergency Preparedness Program is designed to respond to major disasters, including hurricanes. All town departments will participate in the briefing.

“Each year, we pause to review our emergency preparedness procedures in the event that we are faced with a crisis prompted by a major hurricane or other natural disasters,” said Mount Pleasant Town Administrator Mac Burdette. “The details of our response are quite comprehensive and this exercise will simply allow us to review many of these procedures to make sure that they, in fact, accomplish what we hope they will, and to coordinate with other municipalities and agencies.”

“This year, Dr. John Simkovich, public health director for the Department of Health and Environmental Control’s Region 7, will provide a briefing on swine flu pandemic,” added Burdette. “While we focus on hurricane-related disasters, we are very aware that there are many other catastrophes that could be visited on our town. Our job is to prepare a program that will allow us to respond immediately and long-term for any possible disasters.”
