Wednesdays on the Waterfront continues with great line-up! |
Wednesdays on the Waterfront continue with Latin-based music from gritty SC singer/songwriter Miriam Allen
MOUNT PLEASANT SC (July 30, 2009)- The second performance of Wednesdays on the Waterfront is slated for Aug. 5, from 7 – 9 p.m. at the Memorial Waterfront Park pier plaza, across from the pier shop. Following the successful kick off of the series, Miriam Allen will captivate her audience with unique musical renditions influenced by her South American travels. Her childhood musical training was that of a southerner with gritty singer/songwriter roots plunging deep in the heart of South Carolina.
The Mountain Xpress in Ashville, NC, has described her work as passionate: “Allen owns a voice that entices the listener to steal it away for selfish keeping. Be warned: To own a piece of her music means shards of the heart will forever belong to her.”
Miriam Allen is a dancer/singer/composer/multi-instrumentalist whose influences come from having lived and traveled for years in South America and from having performed in Argentina, Cuba, Ecuador, and Mexico. In addition to holding performances throughout the Western Hemisphere, Miriam has played with regional musicians wherever she went, learning their local dialects and dances along the way.
“Miriam Allen engages the audience in a truly eclectic musical performance not to miss,” said Su McManus-Frost, event planner with the Town of Mount Pleasant Community Development and Tourism Office. “We welcome Miriam to our Wednesdays on the Waterfront and invite our residents and visitors to discover her unique talent.”
Wednesdays on the Waterfront will continue with a show from Nick Collins, Mount Pleasant, SC (Aug. 12), an acoustic guitar soloist performing original music, blues, jazz, rock and reggae. It will be followed by a performance by Jeff Norwood, Camden, SC (Aug. 19), a southern blues revivalist with chops, background and stories to go.
The event is free to the public. Refreshments can be purchased at the pier shop. You may bring your own chair but benches and tables are available at the pier. Waterfront Wednesdays is sponsored by the Town of Mount Pleasant Office of Community Development and Tourism and will continue through mid October. On site parking is available at 50 cents per hour, payable at the conveniently located self service kiosks.
