She resides in Old Mount Pleasant with her husband Joel, four children, and a dog. Her children attend Mount Pleasant Academy. She is a deacon at Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church, a member of the adult choir, and serves as accompanist for the LOGOs Children’s Choir. Guang Ming is also a member of Ideas into Action, a community organization that serves as an educational platform for nonprofits in the Lowcountry.
Guang Ming earned a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Southern California and a J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School, where she was a member of Law Review and a moot court semi-finalist. After completing her law degree, Guang Ming taught at the University of Chicago and practiced intellectual property law in Los Angeles. She then retired from active practice to serve as Chief Operating Officer of the Whitley Household.
Guang Ming is President of the Girls State Alumnae Foundation and attended California Girls State in 1996, where she was elected governor. She has volunteered with the Girls State program in a variety of capacities since 2000.
In her spare time, Guang Ming writes speculative fiction.
