Take Root-Mount Pleasant Tree Program
Trees enhance our Town with natural beauty and provide benefits to our neighborhoods by reducing air pollution; filtering dust; reducing noise; providing cooling shade; preventing soil erosion; improving surface drainage; and minimizing flooding. It is for these reasons that the Town of Mount Pleasant promotes the protection of existing trees and for the replacement and planting of new trees.
The Take Root Program began in May 2021 as a community-wide tree planting initiative to encourage residents to take an active role in beautifying the community. As a successful program, the Town has expanded Take Root to encompass all tre programs, beautification efforts, and related educational programs with a mission to preserve existing canopy and promote new tree canopy. The Take Root program includes:
- Tree Protection Ordinance
- Tree Bank Grant
- Scenic Highways
- Public Planting Projects
- Power Line Undergrounding Program
- Take Root Events
- Education and Outreach
The Town of Mount Pleasant has been a proud recipient of the Tree City USA designation since 1989.
