​​Trees enhance our Town with natural beauty and provide benefits to our neighborhoods by reducing air pollution; filtering dust; reducing noise; providing cooling shade; preventing soil erosion; improving surface drainage; and minimizing flooding.  It is for these reasons that the Town of Mount Pleasant promotes the protection of existing trees and for the replacement and planting of new trees.
​The Town of Mount Pleasant has been a proud recipient of the Tree City USA designation since 1989.

New Single Family Residential Stormwater Management and Tree Preservation Program Begins March 1st

This new program addresses unmanaged stormwater and improves efficiency for tree removal and is a means to administer, regulate and manage construction of single family lots, while preserving existing trees and buffers. 

Examples of projects requiring this new permit are construction of a new home, improvements or additions to an existing home, construction of a pool or any detached structure. This new permit is required before any land clearing or disturbance may occur on any property. 

Single Family Residential Building Permit applications received on or after March 1, 2019 will not be approved and issued until this new permit is issued and all inspections are successfully completed.

​I want to remove a tree or trees on my property. 
​​The Town of Mount Pleasant protects certain size and species of tree and removal of these trees require a permit.  Please see section 156.225, Provisions for Tree Removal for species and size requirements, or call the Planning Department if you have questions.  Approval for removal can be obtained by submitting a Tree Removal Request for an Existing Structure form can be submitted online through our website. The removal request form must be submitted by the property owner.​
I am building a house, addition, pool, shed, or other structure and might need to remove a tree or trees.​​
There are new requirements regarding encroachment and/or removal of protected trees for single family lots.  Beginning March 1st, approval for removal or encroachment of protected trees can be obtained by completing and submitting a Single Family Residential Stormwater Management and Tree Protection Permit application.  ​A site plan showing a current tree survey and footprint of the structure is required to be submitted with the request form.  The application can be submitted by the owner or the owner's representative, such as the builder or landscape designer.
There is a tree in the right-of-way that needs to be trimmed.
